Summary of the Job:               

  • Teaching Special Education students following research-based practices.
  • Providing personal assistance to students with physical needs if necessary
  • Working with general education staff to integrate students
  • Participate in and support Behavior Intervention Plans
  • Participate in and support a multi-tiered system of support process  (MTSS)
  • Maintaining necessary program paperwork including case management and progress monitoring
  • Possibly supervise and coordinate paraprofessional staff
  • Adhere to school rules and support the school environment

 

Essential Functions:  Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Possess good organizational skills while preparing student education plans in consultation with parents and IEP team members, arranging meetings, and completing required paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Design instruction, both individual and small group, which supports the core curriculum for the purpose of ensuring successful progress toward students' goals and objectives.  Cooperatively work to develop & enhance curriculum and strategies with a willingness and ability to contribute new ideas.
  • Teamwork and collaboration skills among professionals and paraprofessionals. Participate in planning and co-teaching in general education classes. Attend PLCs.
  • Consult/collaborate with staff, parents, and agencies for the purpose of ensuring appropriate delivery of services and adherence to due process while acting as coordinator of IEP implementation with general education staff. Deals with students and adults in a positive manner.
  •  Maintain appropriate student data, progress monitoring, and other records and submit reports as required, completely and in a timely manner.
  • Manages student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
  • Provides adaptations to the environment to promote student success.

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Possess a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in the area of Special Education
  • Competency in both written and oral English
  • Acceptable personal habits, including good job ethics, attendance, and punctuality
  • Good mental and physical health
  • Emotional stability to work with students and staff
  • Proficiency in computer skills.
