Pre-K Teacher Job Description

 

NATURE OF WORK:

Under general supervision creates an inviting, learning environment, which fosters personal growth; to nurture those attitudes, skills, and knowledge necessary for future successes in school; to build strong ties between home and school; to establish good relationships with parents and other staff members. 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assesses student progress by recording daily anecdotal records and by determining expected growth as stated in the curriculum goals.
  • Provides appropriate materials and experiences which address the social, physical, emotional, and intellectual needs of each student.
  • Previews and selects appropriate instructional supplies.
  • Work in collaboration with a team of PTs, OTs, and SLPs to achieve educational goals.
  • Maintain progress monitoring data for each goal and a service delivery calendar for each student.
  • Develops activities which promote strong home/school relations.
  • Schedule and attend IEP annual review meetings to discuss progress and set new goals with the IEP team.
  • Provide instruction to students with a diversity of special needs: autism, emotional disturbance, developmental delays, etc.
  • Provide home-base services (when needed) as indicated on each student's IEP.
  • Complete progress reports every reporting period as well as participate in discussions with parents about students' progress as needed
  • Provide special education services to children attending mainstream preschools/daycares (including part day and full day preschools located in the 8 elementary school buildings and 11 private preschool locations).  The teacher will travel to these sites each week. 
  • Work collaboratively with classroom teachers in order to implement accommodations and interventions for students with a variety disabilities in their inclusive setting.
  • Participates in professional development opportunities dealing with curriculum and current early childhood issues.

  • Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.
  • Responsible for other duties as assigned by the Pre-K Lead Teacher.
