GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
- Possess the skills necessary for custodial work, cleaning bathrooms, hallways, empty trash, recyclables bins.
- Clean windows, sweep and mop, and buff floors with a propane floor machine.
- Mow and weedeat grass around campus, general knowledge on maintenance of equipment and building operations and must ensure that buildings and gates are secured before leaving the campus
- Reports maintenance issues that are needed to the Principal for their campus.
- Applicant would be required to obtain bus certification and license to drive a morning or evening bus route. This is in addition to the 40 hours for custodial duties and would be paid at overtime rate.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Applicant would be responsible for ordering custodial supplies each month and the air filters for the HVAC equipment in the building quartley.
- Cleans restroom areas and replenishes paper supplies and soap as necessary. Cleans windows, walls, woodwork, blinds and light fixtures and replaces light bulbs in classrooms and offices.
- Dusts and cleans desks and other furniture.
- Empties trash receptacles; deposits recyclable material in proper receptacles.
- Sweeps sidewalks and walkways outside of buildings; polices grounds, picking up debris; shovels snow and/or applies de-icing compounds to walkways and driveways, as necessary.
- Replaces burned-out light bulbs in classrooms and offices.
- Sets sticky traps for rodents and other pests, appropriately discarding the catch in dumpsters.
- Drive a school bus route, when needed.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Performs minor maintenance on appliances, as abilities allow.
- Must open and secure buildings at start and end of workday, respectively; may turn on and off lights at start and end of day, respectively, and adjust heating or air conditioning, as appropriate.
- May arrange furniture for meetings or other events. Performs related work as required.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Custodian: High School Diploma. Minimum 21 years of age, 3 years custodial experience preferred or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Bus Driver: As a condition of employment with MCS, applicant would be required to obtain bus certification and license to drive a morning or evening bus route, when needed. This is in addition to the 40 hours for custodial duties and would be paid at overtime rate.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the State of North Carolina. An employee assigned to this position is governed by “Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace” policy which spells out drug testing requirements, procedures and consequences of positive alcohol or drug tests or drug tests or arrest for alleged violation of any alcohol or drug-related offense.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED
TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Physical Requirements:
- Must be physically able to operate vacuum cleaners, carpet shampooers, brooms, mops, leaf blowers, etc. Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly.
- Applicant should be able to lift up to 50# boxes of boxed paper and/or furniture. Physical demand requirements are for medium work.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- General knowledge of the standard methods, materials, and equipment employed in janitorial work.
- Some knowledge of cleaning procedures and the use of cleaning materials.
- Ability to follow instructions.
- Ability to perform medium physical work.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative in completing work assignments.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.
- Ability to drive a school bus (required).
