Job Description

Exceptional Children Program Specialist

 

Qualifications:

  1. A valid NC teaching certificate.
  2. Successful teaching experience.
  3. Demonstrate expertise in the area of due process and compliance regulations for exceptional children.
  4. Flexible, positive attitude toward students with disabilities and a willingness to advocate for them.
  5. Demonstrate supervisory ability.
  6. General knowledge of testing procedures.

 

General Statement of Position:

 

Under EC Director supervision, performs a variety of evaluative, supportive, and supervisory tasks system-wide in assisting the teachers of students with disabilities.  Specialists may perform a wide range of tasks to support the supervision of EC teachers and ensure the compliance of the regulations of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).  Specialist provides individual assistance to teachers with training and behavior support and may lead group and individual professional development activities as directed. Specialist provides support and monitoring for schools with instructional strategies, behavior support and strategies and in implementing PBIS.  Specialist assists EC teachers and principals, as designated by EC Director.
